Here are some of the cars I found in the wild ranging from dreamcars to jalopy delights.
Mercedes-Beater - I love it!
A needlessly sticker-cluttered BMW Z1
An unmolested Manta B. Most of them are ruined by tasteless tuning and customising efforts so that clean examples are very welcome.
The Manta(-owners) had a lousy image back in the day. The car was dismissed as a "Bauernporsche" (farmer's Porsche), and with only 110hp from the top spec engine the Manta wasn't exactly worthy of the spoilers the owners loved to put on the car. I however always had a soft spot for the simple and cheap coupe.
GT/E - In the 80's these magic letters made classy women swoon...in my mind.
I want one...
If this was my car I'd lower it a bit and put on sportier rims. Maybe I'd also try out a small rear spoiler.
Another Mercedes. This time it's the mighty SL 600 with the V12. I don't like the car so I have to ask you guys: What's more important?
A. Smooth torque
B. Good looks and reasonable weight
C. AMG, AMG, AMG!!!
Here's a new meme in the making. I say: Oppo does!
They might be brilliant sportscars, but they are everywhere. That's why I'm not really excited about seeing Porsches in general. But I took the picture for you guys anyway!
Shortly after that an elderly woman called down from her balcony and asked me what I was doing like if I was lurking around a playground in a raincoat...
You can actually see by looking at my pictures that I always avoid to trespass and make sure to hide the license plates. So I gave her my camera and she looked at the pictures I already made. After she inquired me about my name she explained that there were quite a few burglaries in the neighborhood in the recent past and the police told residents to watch out.
Those are the moments when I'm feeling awkward for my car fetish. I'd rather have explained to her in a stereotypical Eastern European accent that I'm scouting for the night crew instead of explaining my interest in cars and the reason for photographing them to her suspicious face.
Here's the uncut picture from the Boxster. Tell me Oppo: Is this one of the most German pictures ever made? It has a Porsche, a bus stop and a street light older than most of the cities in the US in it after all. It's only missing a drunk guy in a football jersey of the national team urinating against the latter.
I never liked the "cute" Twingo, but the rims are making a strong case for this little fellow. Those are magnificent! I'd really love to hoon the car on a daily basis. I'd have to throw out the Hello Kitty seat covers though...
It was parked in a pretty jalopy lineup. Strangely I felt a disturbance in my love for cars when I found an old Omega while browsing for a cheap beater on the web. I actually like those ugly battleships. I'm scared of my inner demons now...
Let's quickly move on to supercars! This is not the parking lot of the Jalopnik subdivision in Göttingen. It's the headquarter of one the biggest property management firms. Fun fact: They were administrating my flat too and I signed the rental agreement in a not at all naive fashion on a 911 rear wing. A few months ago the management changed - for the worse...
Now I'm living in a moldy flat and Porsche guy probably moved up to the FF below...
Ok, I have a final dreamcar for you. A nearly spotless 123 in the second best spec imaginable: 300 TD Automatic.
When I think about the Beater-Benz earlier, I'm curious whether future generations will say: "Mercedes-Benz - Only real with the missing star!"
Who steals those and why? Yes, anti-establishment yada-yada, but this car is a classic and not a S-Class owned by some captain of industry or nobleman. Get over it!
Have an encore since the FF wasn't really visible in the picture above.

Lovely day of car spotting. I had a Maserati Granturismo behind and beside me in traffic. It sounded fantastic, especially when it went by me.

It really was!
I respect Maseratis for their musical finesse.
Since I didn't want to ramble too much about the FF in the text, I didn't mention that it drove by after I took the picture.
The clue of the story is that it was whisper quiet which pleasantly surprised me.
V12 screaming and burbling is very lovely indeed, but I'd hate to be that guy who literally screams for attention all the time and everywhere.
It's good to know the car can do both!

Yeah, it would probably get annoying and painful on the ears when you're just driving around town.
Best would be nicely quiet when slow, but roaring pretty good at the upper levels of the rev range.

These are good looking cars indeed. The American versions aren't bad either.

Schönes Foto Mark! Where in Germany is this. Very German indeed, but I will say I like the photo my dad took of the W123 E Klasse they had when we lived in Bad Kissingen. It was parked on the street in front of the apartment they rented. The building was from the 1800s and was named the Jägerhaus.

You made some great photos Mark.

Exactly!

Ok, you win!
It's Göttingen, a comperatively small city. There are very nice cars around, but you can imagine that Göttingen can't offer car spotting opportunities like Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and other bigger cities.

Thank you!
